Common Solar Panel Scams

Unethical or High-Pressure Sales Tactics

An increasing problem is a cold call scam offering “Free” testing of the Solar inverter & solar system offering greater returns and more production from the Solar Panels. We have had several calls from older more vulnerable clients who have been told that the Solar Panel Inverter is dangerous or likely to cause a fire.

They then offer there services at greatly inflated prices to replace or modify the system to correct the faults. One elderly customer paid £3,900 to change an inverter and another paid £4,500 for a voltage optimiser that quite frankly will never save him more than £50 if he lives to be 150 years old.

Unfortunately in the UK, forceful, aggressive, or dishonest sales tactics are all too common in most contracting fields, including “Free” solar panel installations. Fraudulent companies will try to force sales at any cost and offer free solar panel installations, even if the specifics of the installation are detrimental to the homeowner.

There are plenty of underhanded ways representatives can try to close a sale, and some are more obvious than others, Solar panel Scams are increasing.
