Funding energy improvements

Green Home Loans, Mortgages and Solar Finance

Some lenders offer green additional borrowing, cashback or preferential products for eligible energy improvements. “Free” should be treated carefully: eligibility, interest, fees and total repayment still matter.

A low rate or cashback is only one part of the decision.

01

Eligibility

Products may depend on the lender, mortgage status, EPC, improvement type, loan-to-value and property.

02

Total repayment

Compare interest, arrangement fees, term and early-repayment rules—not only the monthly figure.

03

Installer evidence

The lender may require quotations, invoices, certification or evidence that the work meets its conditions.

04

Consumer protection

Read the credit agreement and cooling-off information. Finance approval should never replace a technical solar survey.

Good sequence

Design the project before choosing the borrowing.

  1. Assess the roof, electrical installation and energy use.
  2. Obtain a clear equipment and installation specification.
  3. Model realistic generation and household value.
  4. Compare cash, mortgage borrowing and regulated finance on total cost.
  5. Confirm lender eligibility and required evidence directly.

Green-finance FAQ

Are green home loans really free?

Usually not in the ordinary sense. A lender may offer cashback, a promotional rate or a limited interest-free amount, but conditions and total costs must be checked.

Should finance length match panel life?

The appropriate term is a personal financial decision. Compare total repayment, flexibility and the risk of a long commitment.

Does finance approval prove the system is suitable?

No. Technical suitability requires a proper survey and design.
