Electrical work by Mr Solar

More than simply connecting solar panels.

A Solar PV or battery installation ultimately becomes part of your property’s electrical installation. That means the quality of the electrical work is every bit as important as the panels, inverter or battery that you choose.

Mr Solar provides professional electrical installation, inspection, testing and remedial services for homes and businesses, both as part of renewable energy projects and as standalone electrical work.

Safe. Tidy. Tested. Certified.

We believe electrical work should look professional as well as perform correctly.

Correct cable selection, protection devices, isolation, earthing, labelling, testing and documentation are all part of the installation — not optional extras.

The job is not finished just because the power switches back on.

Our approach

We don’t do cheap electrics. We do quality electrical work.

There will almost always be somebody prepared to complete an electrical job for less. Our priority is providing an installation we are happy to put the Mr Solar name on.

Quality components Reputable electrical equipment selected for reliability, safety and long-term support.
Correct design Cable sizing, circuit protection, load requirements and installation conditions properly considered.
Professional installation Neat cable routes, proper containment, secure equipment and attention to the finish.
Inspection & testing Electrical work inspected and tested rather than simply connected and assumed to be satisfactory.
Correct certification Appropriate electrical certificates and Building Regulations notification where required.
Long-term support A local team that also understands solar, batteries, EV charging and modern home energy systems.

ISO

Isolation & Distribution

Installation and upgrading of suitable isolators, distribution equipment and protective devices required for renewable energy and electrical installations.

Understanding the paperwork

EIC, EICR or Minor Works — what’s the difference?

Electrical certificates are not interchangeable. The correct document depends on whether we are installing something new, altering an existing circuit or inspecting an existing electrical installation.

EIC

Electrical Installation Certificate

Generally used for new installations, new circuits and other electrical work requiring full initial verification. It includes inspection and electrical test results.

EICR

Electrical Installation Condition Report

Used to assess an existing installation. An EICR records its condition at the time of inspection and identifies observations or defects that may require remedial work.

MW

Minor Electrical Works Certificate

Used for qualifying additions or alterations to an existing circuit where a full Electrical Installation Certificate is not required.

Modern electrical protection

Your consumer unit is the heart of the installation.

01 Correct circuit protection
02 Appropriate RCD / RCBO protection
03 Surge protection where required
04 Correct labelling and identification
05 Inspection, testing and certification
Consumer unit upgrades

Is your existing electrical system ready for solar, batteries and EVs?

Modern homes are placing greater demands on electrical installations than ever before. Solar generation, batteries, electric vehicles, heat pumps and electric heating can significantly change the way power flows around a property.

Before installing new equipment we assess the existing electrical installation and will explain if any upgrades are genuinely required.

  • Replacement consumer units
  • Additional ways or dedicated distribution boards
  • RCBO and RCD protection
  • Surge Protection Devices
  • New dedicated circuits
  • Main earthing and protective bonding checks
  • Testing and certification after installation
One integrated electrical system

Electrical work designed around Solar PV, batteries & EV charging.

The advantage of using an electrical contractor that specialises in renewable energy is that we understand how the different parts of the property interact.

Solar generation, battery charging and discharging, EV chargers, import limits, export limits and backup supplies all place different demands on the electrical installation.

We can assess the complete system rather than looking at each piece of equipment in isolation.

Solar isn’t separate from your electrics.

The inverter, battery and EV charger ultimately connect into your electrical installation. Correct design, protection, testing and certification are essential to the performance and safety of the complete system.

Independently assessed

Why choose a NAPIT registered electrical contractor?

NAPIT registered electrical contractors are assessed against recognised requirements for competence, processes and compliant electrical installation work.

Depending on the work being undertaken, electrical installations may require an Electrical Installation Certificate, Minor Electrical Works Certificate or Electrical Installation Condition Report.

Where electrical work is notifiable under the Building Regulations in England and Wales, eligible work can also be notified through the Competent Person Scheme and the appropriate Building Regulations Compliance Certificate provided.

Our electrical work is carried out in accordance with applicable requirements of the current edition of BS 7671 and relevant Building Regulations.

Electrical FAQs

Questions customers often ask us.

What is the difference between an EIC and an EICR?

An EIC relates to electrical installation work and records its initial verification and test results. An EICR is an inspection report assessing the condition of an existing electrical installation.

Do I need an EICR before having solar panels installed?

Not every property automatically requires a full EICR before solar is installed. However, the existing electrical installation must be suitable for the proposed work. Where its condition is uncertain or defects are identified, further inspection or an EICR may be recommended.

Do I need a new consumer unit for solar or battery storage?

Not necessarily. We assess the existing consumer unit, circuit protection, earthing and available ways before recommending an upgrade. We will not recommend replacing equipment simply because it is older if a compliant and suitable solution can be achieved.

Will I receive electrical certification?

Yes, where certification is required for the work carried out, the appropriate electrical certificate is provided. Notifiable work is also dealt with through the relevant Building Regulations process where applicable.

Can Mr Solar repair problems found on an EICR?

Yes. We can quote for appropriate remedial electrical work after inspection, rectify agreed defects and carry out the relevant testing and certification following completion.

Do you carry out electrical work without installing solar?

Yes. Although renewable energy is our specialist area, we also undertake suitable standalone electrical inspection, testing, consumer unit upgrades, fault finding, remedial work, new circuits and associated electrical installation work.

Why might Mr Solar cost more than the cheapest quotation?

Our quotations are based on completing the installation properly using suitable equipment, professional installation methods, inspection, testing and the required documentation. We would rather provide long-term value than compete to be the lowest electrical quote.
