GivEnergy Fault Finding

We Diagnose the Problem — Not Just the Error Code

A GivEnergy warning does not automatically mean that the inverter or battery needs replacing.

Problems can originate from the inverter, battery, BMS communications, metering, CT clamps, AC supply, PV array, cabling, internet connection or system configuration.

Our approach is to establish what is actually causing the problem before recommending repair or replacement equipment.

Common GivEnergy Problems

What Is Your GivEnergy System Doing?

🔴 Inverter Fault

Red warning light, recurring alarm, inverter shutdown, grid fault, GFCI warning or an inverter which will no longer start.

Search inverter fault codes →

🔋 Battery Not Charging

Battery remaining at low state of charge, refusing to charge, shutting down or not accepting available solar or scheduled charging.

Check battery fault codes →

↔ Battery Not Discharging

The battery appears charged but is not supplying the property when expected, or remains at a fixed state of charge.

Battery fault guide →

🔌 BMS Communication Fault

Communication errors between the inverter and battery can involve cables, configuration, firmware, battery condition or the BMS.

See BMS communication faults →

📡 System Offline

The system may still be operating even though the GivEnergy app or portal has stopped updating.

Search communication faults →

⚡ Meter or CT Problems

Incorrect import/export values, strange house-load readings or unexpected battery behaviour can involve metering, CT orientation or communication issues.

Meter & CT fault guide →

☀️ Solar Not Generating

If solar generation has stopped or dropped significantly, the cause may be the inverter, PV array, isolators, cabling or another part of the system.

Check solar-related faults →

📉 Low System Performance

Generation or battery performance may deteriorate without the system completely failing. We can investigate where the lost performance is occurring.

🛠 Original Installer Unavailable

We regularly help customers whose original solar installer is no longer available or where a property has been purchased with an existing GivEnergy system.

GivEnergy Error Codes

Do You Already Have a GivEnergy Fault Code?

If your inverter, battery or app is displaying a warning, make a note of the exact code before resetting the system.

Our dedicated GivEnergy fault-code guide covers common:

  • BMS communication faults
  • Battery low-voltage warnings
  • Battery not charging or discharging
  • Meter communication faults
  • GFCI and insulation faults
  • No Utility / grid faults
  • Backup overload faults
  • Incorrect import and export readings

What We Can Check

  • GivEnergy inverter operating status
  • Battery state of charge
  • Battery voltage
  • BMS communications
  • Battery charge operation
  • Battery discharge operation
  • Charging schedules
  • Solar PV generation
  • PV string voltage and current
  • AC and DC isolators
  • Meter communications
  • CT clamp position and direction
  • Import and export readings
  • App and portal monitoring
  • Wi-Fi and communications
  • System configuration
  • Electrical protection
  • Existing installation condition
Important: Battery and inverter equipment contains hazardous voltages. Do not remove covers or attempt internal electrical repairs unless you are appropriately qualified.
Repair, Reconfigure or Replace

We Will Explain What the System Actually Needs

Not every GivEnergy fault requires a replacement inverter or battery.

Where possible we will establish whether the problem can be resolved through configuration, communications, metering, corrective electrical work or another repair.

Repair

Diagnose and correct wiring, metering, communication or installation faults where replacement equipment is not required.

Reconfigure

Review operating modes, charging schedules, reserve settings, metering configuration and system behaviour.

Replace

Where equipment has failed, we can explain suitable replacement options and any compatibility issues with the existing installation.

Systems Installed By Other Companies

Your Original Installer Does Not Need to Be Mr Solar

We regularly help customers where the original installer is unavailable, has stopped responding, is no longer trading, or where the property has been purchased with a GivEnergy installation already fitted.

1

Tell Us What You Have

Send the inverter model, battery model, exact fault message and photographs of the installation where possible.

2

Initial Assessment

We assess the symptoms and determine whether an on-site diagnostic visit is likely to be required.

3

Test & Diagnose

We investigate the system rather than automatically assuming that the inverter or battery needs replacing.

Before You Contact Us

Send Us These Details If You Can

The more information you send initially, the easier it is for us to understand the problem before attending.

Equipment Details

Photograph the GivEnergy inverter and battery labels showing the model and serial number where possible.

Exact Fault Code

Send a screenshot or photograph showing the exact warning or error.

Search the code first →

Monitoring Screenshots

Screenshots showing battery SOC, generation, house load and import/export information may help us identify the issue.

Safety: If there is burning, overheating, visible damage, water ingress or an electrical safety concern, do not remove equipment covers. Isolate the system only if it is safe to do so and you know the correct isolation procedure.
Frequently Asked Questions

GivEnergy Repairs FAQs

Can you repair a GivEnergy system installed by another company?

Yes. We diagnose and repair solar and battery systems originally installed by other contractors. Manufacturer warranty access may depend on the equipment, installation history and individual circumstances.

Does a fault code mean my inverter has failed?

Not necessarily. A fault code identifies an operating condition but the cause may be elsewhere in the installation, including the battery, metering, communications, PV array or AC supply.

Why is my GivEnergy battery not charging?

Possible causes include schedules, operating mode, reserve settings, BMS communication, meter information, battery condition or an inverter fault. Proper diagnosis is preferable to replacing components unnecessarily.

Why has the GivEnergy app stopped updating?

The system may still be operating normally. Monitoring problems can result from an internet, dongle, communication or portal connection problem rather than a failed inverter.

Where can I find my GivEnergy fault code?

Check the inverter display, system status and GivEnergy monitoring platform. If a warning is shown, copy the exact wording or take a screenshot and use our GivEnergy Fault Code Guide .
