Home Battery Storage

Home battery storage

Store energy when it is cheaper. Use it when it matters.

A well-designed home battery can store surplus solar, charge during suitable off-peak periods and reduce expensive daytime imports. Mr Solar compares capacity, output power, tariffs, solar generation and backup goals before recommending a system.

Which battery route are you considering?

New solar and battery

Design the array, hybrid inverter and storage together so generation, power and monitoring work as one system.

Add storage to solar

Assess the existing inverter, meters, FIT position and electrical installation before choosing AC-coupled or hybrid storage.

Expand an existing battery

Model generation, age, state of health, firmware and manufacturer rules must be checked before adding modules.

Capacity translated into everyday use

Start with the energy window you want to cover.

Battery size should reflect evening demand, solar surplus, tariff-charging windows and future loads. These simple examples show why both capacity and power matter.

Two different limits: kWh describes how much energy is stored; kW describes how much power the inverter and battery can deliver at once. A system can have plenty of stored energy but still be unable to run every high-power appliance simultaneously.

Illustrative examples

  • 5 kWh: roughly 5 hours at a steady 1 kW load
  • 10 kWh: roughly 10 hours at 1 kW, or 5 hours at 2 kW
  • 15 kWh: roughly 7.5 hours at 2 kW
  • A 7 kW EV charger can consume 10 kWh in under 90 minutes if battery discharge is allowed

Figures are simple energy illustrations, not guaranteed runtime. Allow for battery reserve, conversion losses, temperature, ageing and changing household demand.

Current systems we assess

Different products suit different properties.

We do not force every project into one manufacturer. Current options and support pages include the following, subject to availability and project compatibility.

Sigenergy

Integrated modular platform for solar, storage, backup and compatible smart-energy options.

Tesla Powerwall 3

13.5 kWh storage with integrated solar inverter and high power capability.

Solis, Fox & Dyness

Modular, wall-mounted and integrated options for different inverter and capacity requirements.

Pylontech

Low-voltage rack batteries and modular Force storage for compatible systems.

GivEnergy owners: GivEnergy Ltd ceased trading in April 2026. Mr Solar is not promoting new sales but continues independent support for suitable existing installations. View GivEnergy service support.
