01 / Understand the scheme

A clearer route to
funding your home upgrade.

The Warm Homes Loan Scheme helps eligible homeowners and private landlords spread the cost of low-carbon home improvements. Government support enables participating lenders to reduce borrowing costs for technologies including solar panels and home battery storage.

You borrow from a lender and repay the loan under your agreement. There is no single government loan product or fixed scheme APR: rates, fees, repayment periods and eligibility vary.

For eligible loans with terms of three to ten years, support can reduce the lender’s fixed annual interest rate by up to five percentage points, subject to scheme funding limits. The reduction may be lower for longer terms. This does not mean every customer will receive a 0% loan.

Where Mr Solar fits in

We can survey your property, design your solar and battery system, and provide an installation quotation. Warm Homes finance is not currently available through Mr Solar. Before committing, check that your chosen lender accepts the proposed installer, equipment and installation. This page provides scheme information; it is not a finance offer.

02 / Your solar & storage options

What would work
for your home?

New solar, a battery upgrade or both. Start with the way you use electricity, then build the right system around it.

01

Solar panels

Generate electricity on your roof for use in your home. We assess orientation, shading, roof space and energy demand to develop a suitable panel and inverter design.

The scheme includes eligible roof-mounted solar PV and permitted installation costs within the solar cap.

02

Battery storage

Store electricity for later use. A battery can help shift solar energy into the evening or use suitable off-peak tariffs, depending on your system and electricity plan.

Eligible batteries can be installed on their own or paired with solar. Product and installer requirements still apply.

03

Solar + battery

Plan generation and storage together. Match the panel array, inverter and battery to your household, including an EV or future changes in electricity use.

More than one eligible improvement can be included, subject to the relevant technology caps and your lender’s product limits.

Discuss a combined system

Actual energy savings depend on the property, equipment, household usage and tariffs. A loan repayment is a separate commitment and is not guaranteed to be covered by energy savings.

Designed around everyday life

The right system
starts with your home.

A finance option is only part of the decision. Your solar PV design should make sense for your property and the way you use electricity.

Your roof
Available space, orientation, shade, roof condition and installation access.
Your energy use
Daytime and evening demand, annual consumption, EV charging and future plans.
Your system
Compatible panels, inverter and battery, with a clear scope, cost and handover.

04 / Questions, answered

Clear answers
before you decide.

Solar panel loans and battery storage finance can involve different terms. Here are the points to check first.

Ask Mr Solar
Is every Warm Homes loan interest-free?

No. Some participating lenders offer interest-free products; others offer reduced rates. The APR, term, fees and acceptance criteria depend on the lender and product. Always check your personalised offer.

Can I get Warm Homes finance directly from Mr Solar?

Finance under this scheme is not currently available through Mr Solar. We can provide a survey, design and installation quotation. Your chosen lender must confirm whether it accepts our proposed installation before you commit.

Can I add a battery to my existing solar panels?

The scheme includes eligible standalone batteries as well as batteries paired with solar. A retrofit still needs compatible equipment and the appropriate certification. We can assess your existing system and explain your installation options.

Read our guide to adding battery storage.

Can I include solar and a battery in one project?

You can apply for more than one eligible improvement. The relevant technology caps and your lender’s product limits apply. The scheme does not guarantee a combined loan amount or approval.

Do I need to be on a low income to apply?

The national loan scheme has no scheme-wide income threshold. Lenders assess affordability and creditworthiness and may set additional requirements. The separate Warm Homes: Local Grant has different eligibility rules.

Why does MCS certification matter?

Eligible solar and battery installations need MCS-certified products and installers certified for the relevant technology. For a battery installation, check battery certification specifically. Your lender will also confirm its installer requirements.

Learn more about MCS certification.

What should I compare before choosing a loan?

Check the APR, monthly payment, total amount repayable, term, fees and early repayment conditions. Ask whether it is secured on your home and which installer and equipment rules apply. For secured borrowing, your home may be at risk if you do not keep up repayments.

Can the loan pay for roof repairs or an EV charger?

Replacement roofing and structural work are generally outside the scheme. An EV chargepoint is not eligible on its own; it may qualify alongside a supported solar or battery installation. Ask the lender to confirm the eligible costs in your quotation.
