An initial ECO4 check can show whether it is worth progressing, but it is not a funding approval. Eligibility evidence, a property assessment and acceptance by an obligated supplier or delivery partner are still required.

You do not need to diagnose the property yourself. A few accurate details can help identify whether the enquiry should proceed and which documents may be requested.
About the household
- Who owns or rents the property
- Whether anyone receives a potentially qualifying benefit
- Whether a local-authority flexible-eligibility route may apply
- Permission from the homeowner or landlord where needed

- Full postcode and property type
- Current heating system and fuel
- Known insulation or previous grant work
- Existing EPC details if available
About the problem
- Rooms that are difficult to heat
- High energy costs or heating failure
- Visible damp or building-condition concerns
- Any planned works already under discussion
There is more than one ECO4 pathway.
Some households may qualify through specified means-tested benefits. Others may be referred through an approved local-authority flexible-eligibility route, subject to that authority’s published statement and the delivery partner’s checks.
Passing a household test does not mean every measure is available. The building must also be suitable, the improvement package must meet the scheme rules and the funder must accept delivery.

What we will not promise
We will not describe ECO4 as guaranteed “free solar”, promise a particular product before assessment or imply that an online form is the same as funding approval.
We will explain the stage reached, what evidence is still needed and whether the enquiry can realistically progress.

The relevant party requests and checks evidence required for that route.

The property is assessed and suitable improvements are identified under current rules.
Confirm
The funder confirms eligibility, measures, any contribution and delivery before work proceeds.
