Use more of the solar energy you generate

myenergi eddi solar energy diverter

eddi monitors the electricity flowing to and from your property. When your solar panels are producing more than the home and battery require, it can direct the available surplus to a suitable heating load instead of exporting it to the grid.

Mr Solar supplies, installs and configures eddi for new and existing solar PV systems across Norfolk and Suffolk.

How it works

Turn surplus solar electricity into useful heat

Measure

A current sensor monitors power at the electricity supply and detects genuine export.

Prioritise

Your normal household demand—and, where configured, battery charging—can take priority.

Divert

Only the available surplus is sent progressively to the selected compatible heating appliance.

Applications

What can a solar energy diverter be used for?

Domestic hot water

The most common application: proportionally powering a compatible immersion heater in a vented or unvented hot-water cylinder.

Second immersion or thermal store

Some systems can prioritise two suitable resistive heating loads sequentially, useful for dual-immersion cylinders or thermal stores.

Underfloor or space heating

Surplus can support compatible resistive electric heating where the appliance, thermostat, switching and electrical design are suitable.

Swimming pools and leisure

A diverter may contribute to a compatible pool, spa or other resistive heating circuit following a site-specific controls assessment.

Heat-pump coordination

eddi can complement a heat-pump system by using lower levels of surplus through an immersion element or suitable control interface. It does not simply vary the compressor supply.

Boiler and heating controls

With the correct optional relay and sensor arrangements, eddi can assist with approved heating-control functions, timers and temperature management.

Important: A diverter is not a general-purpose supply for any appliance. Motor loads, EV chargers, heat-pump compressors and electronic equipment require their own compatible controls. Mr Solar checks the load, cable, protection, cylinder thermostat and system priorities before installation.

Why choose eddi?

Smart control within the myenergi ecosystem

  • Uses surplus solar or wind generation for compatible heating loads
  • Responds to changing surplus in less than one second
  • Supports low-generation trickle diversion below the normal starting level of many larger loads
  • Can manage two heating outputs sequentially, with configurable priority
  • Built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet connectivity
  • Timers, boost functions and live monitoring through the myenergi app
  • Works alongside compatible zappi, libbi and other myenergi devices
  • Manufacturer-backed three-year warranty when registered, subject to myenergi terms

Choosing the right unit

Popular solar hot-water diverters compared

Product Typical strengths Often best suited to
myenergi eddi App monitoring, Wi-Fi/Ethernet, timers, boost control, two sequential heating outputs and integration with the myenergi ecosystem. Customers wanting smart control, wider heating options or coordination with zappi and other myenergi equipment.
Solar iBoost+ Established wireless sender and clamp, two cascading load connections, programmable boosts and optional Buddy display. Up to a 3kW resistive immersion load. Straightforward solar hot-water diversion with a familiar dedicated controller.
SOLiC 200 Compact fit-and-forget controller, manual override and pause functions, designed primarily for a compatible immersion heater. Simple automatic hot-water diversion where app control is not required.
immerSUN Legacy multi-load energy-management platform used on many older UK solar installations. Existing-system support or replacement assessment; availability and compatibility should be confirmed.
PowerFlow Energy Current options include single-phase 3kW and 6kW products plus higher-power three-phase diversion, depending on the model. Simple domestic immersion control, multi-immersion thermal stores or assessed three-phase applications.

Product availability, specifications and warranty terms can change. Mr Solar recommends a unit only after checking the solar system, export tariff, battery strategy and intended heating load.

Solar iBoost Plus hot water energy diverter and Buddy display

eddi or Solar iBoost+?

The best choice depends on how you want to use it

For customers wanting app visibility and integration with the wider myenergi ecosystem, eddi is usually the stronger starting point. Solar iBoost+ remains a well-established choice for dedicated immersion-heater diversion and offers a wireless sender, timed boosts and an optional in-home Buddy display.

We can also assess existing SOLiC 200, immerSUN and PowerFlow installations, or recommend an appropriate replacement when an older unit has failed.

Solar panels and batteries

Set the correct priority for your home

Solar first

Generation supplies the house before genuine surplus is available for another purpose.

Battery strategy

Depending on the system and CT arrangement, the battery may be prioritised before hot water—or the order may be configured to suit the household.

Export value

If your export tariff pays more per kWh than the fuel displaced by heating water, exporting may be financially preferable. We explain this before recommending a diverter.

Suitable for new and existing solar

What Mr Solar checks before installation

  • Immersion heater rating, condition and thermostat protection
  • Cylinder type, access and existing boiler or heat-pump controls
  • Consumer-unit capacity, circuit protection, earthing and cable route
  • Location and direction of monitoring clamps
  • Solar inverter, battery and EV-charger interaction
  • Export tariff and whether diversion is likely to provide worthwhile savings
  • Wi-Fi or Ethernet availability where smart monitoring is required

Installation is completed by Mr Solar’s NAPIT-registered electrical team and can be included with a new solar project or retrofitted to a suitable existing system.
